Dirty Dishes? Just Moisturize It!

You don’t have to look far to spot the main attraction in this Jamesville cotton field— the Cooper’s new home has sprung to life right before our eyes.  Dozens of visitors watch from behind a dusty steel barricade, which separates spectators from the construction site. Scores of volunteers scatter the landscape, some climbing the tall peaks of the roof and others forming concrete block assembly lines. However, many people do not realize what it takes to energize all these hungry volunteers.

The meal committee, a tireless group of Edenton volunteers, has been working around the clock to secure and serve over 4,500 meals for the entirety of the build. No challenge is too great for these superheroes— their exceedingly high spirits refuse to be crushed by no running water and a growing mound of dirty dishes.  Leave it up to these clever ladies to find the solution: a combination of removing food remnants with bottled water, scrubbing the dishes with hot kettle water, and finishing it off with some moisturizing soap ensures a thorough clean.  It’s no laughing matter here, though. Often working 10 hour shifts, these women do whatever it takes to keep these volunteers happy.
