Community College Volunteers Out in Full Force
I’m a volunteer on the Jamesville site, just as these talented bloggers are — I’m just a bit (um, almost three times their age) older, having retired from the NC Community College System late last year. I am particularly grateful that so many community college students, faculty and staff have “answered the call” to be heroes helping heroes! Public information staff from Beaufort County, Martin and Pitt Community Colleges and The College of The Albemarle (also a community college) shared their great media contacts, and volunteers have streamed onto the site!
Several community colleges teach building trades and even send students to the ECU construction program that’s been so helpful, so this build is a great match for them. Pitt Community College students, who build houses for charity every year, have been hard at work, and College of The Albemarle volunteers helped move the family out last Saturday. Beaufort County Community College students came out in force to help with the roof, and more are coming. We’ve had help from Martin Community College, too, and maybe others that I just haven’t seen yet! More are coming for the last push late tonight, thanks to quick response to an emergency call. Thanks to all for hard work during a busy time. Community colleges are all about “creating success,” and these folks have certainly helped do that in the Martin County cotton fields!
